Copenhagen, Denmark — Tricky red baseball caps Donald Trump Iconic MAGA hats have become a symbol of Danish and Greenlandic defiance against the US president’s threat to seize the frozen lands.

“Make America Go” hats — a parody of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan — have gained popularity along with several variants on social media and at public protests, including a weekend demonstration held in freezing weather in the Danish capital.

European governments are Rally behind DenmarkPointing out the need to defend the Arctic regions and warn of threats against them Greenland Undermining Western security.

But the protesters are less diplomatic.

“I want to show my support for Greenland and also show that I don’t like the president of the United States,” said Lars Hermansen, 76, a Copenhagen resident who wore one of the red hats at Saturday’s protest.

The mock hats were created by Copenhagen vintage clothing shop owner Jesper Raab Tønnesen. The first batches of the project failed last year — until the Trump administration recently stepped up its rhetoric on Greenland. And now they are showing up everywhere.

“When a delegation from America went to Greenland, we started to realize that maybe this wasn’t a joke — it’s not reality TV, it’s actually reality,” said Tonson, 58. “So I said, ‘Well, what can I do?’ Can I communicate in a funny way a good message and unite Danes to show that Danish people support Greenlandic people?

Demand suddenly went from low to sold out within one weekend. Tonson said he has now ordered “several thousand.”

The original version designed by Tonnesen included a play on words: “Nu det NUUK!” – a corruption of the Danish phrase “Nu det nok”, which means “now is enough”, instead Knockthe small capital of Greenland.

Protesters marching on Saturday waved the red-and-white flags of Denmark and Greenland and carried handmade signs mocking U.S. claims to sovereignty over the region, which is slightly larger than Saudi Arabia.

“No means no,” read one sign. Another declared: “Let’s make America smart again.”

Protester Christian Boy, 49, wearing one of the satirical hats, said the rally in front of Copenhagen City Hall had a playful tone while delivering a serious message.

“I am here to support the people of Greenland, who are going through a very difficult time right now,” he said. “They are threatened with invasion of their country. I think this is completely unacceptable.”
