Nearly a month after the season ended for the Minnesota Vikings, they are moving on from their general manager.

NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reported Friday afternoon that the Vikings had fired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah after four seasons as their general manager. The team was quick to announce that front office executive Rob Brzezinski would take over as de facto general manager on an interim basis during the NFL Draft. The team will make a decision on the long-term leader of its front office after April’s draft, giving them time to do a full review of the candidates.

The team released a statement that read: “Following our annual end-of-season organizational meetings over the past several weeks and after careful consideration, we have decided that it is in the best interest of the team to move forward with new leadership of our football operations. These decisions are never easy. We are grateful for Kwesi’s contributions and commitment to the organization over the past four years and wish him and his family the best in the future… Following the draft, we intend to conduct an extensive search to identify our next general manager. A team that can compete for championships drives us every day and we look forward to giving our fans the success they so richly deserve.”

It’s worth noting that Adofo-Mensah was seen on the field during Senior Bowl practices this week, apparently working on the team’s draft preparation. Could you have seen this move coming? Perhaps, but the timing is perhaps the most striking aspect of all.
