Drugmaker Eli Lilly & Co. says it will build a $3.5 billion manufacturing facility in Pennsylvania, as the company works to expand domestic production and capitalize on rising sales of obesity and diabetes treatments.

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania– Drugmaker Eli Lilly & Co. said Friday it will build a $3.5 billion manufacturing facility in Pennsylvania, as the company expands domestic production and capitalizes on rising sales of obesity and diabetes treatments.

Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly, maker of the weight loss treatment Zepbound and the diabetes drug Mounjaro, is in the midst of a broader domestic expansion that includes new factories it announced in Texas, Virginia and Alabama. Another facility is under construction in Indiana.

The company said the new plant in Vogelsville, outside Allentown, will produce injectable drugs and devices, including production of the weight-loss drug retaretide, a once-weekly injectable drug that is still under study and not available for general use.

She added that construction is expected to begin this year and end in 2031.
