Morristown, New Jersey – A man has been charged in connection with the armed robbery of an NFL player at a New Jersey home last year.
The man faces two counts of robbery and conspiracy stemming from the Feb. 15 robbery in Morristown. Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Announced Tuesday. Prosecutors said he was charged on January 15, after he was identified as a suspect through electronic evidence.
The man was in jail on unrelated charges at the time of his arrest, and a judge ruled Monday that he would remain in custody until his trial on robbery charges.
Prosecutors said the player, whose name has not been released, was a member of the New York Jets at the time. He was in New York City with friends and had just returned home when a car blocked him in the driveway around 8 a.m. Four masked men, each armed with a gun, got out of that car and robbed the player and his driver before returning to their car and fleeing.
Prosecutors said the robbery remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Major Crimes Unit. They did not comment on whether any other suspects had been identified or charged.
The incident was one of Many robberies Which has targeted American professional athletes in recent years. Victims included NFL quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes and NBA players Luka Doncic and Mike Conley Jr.
