Rockville, Maryland– On Friday, an American court sentenced the daughter of former CIA Director John Negroponte to 35 years in prison, on charges of corruption Friend fatally stabbed After a drunken fight at a home in Maryland.
Sophia Negroponte, 33, was sentenced by Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Terrence McGann. A jury in November found her guilty of second-degree murder in the death of 24-year-old Joseph Rasmussen. There was a retrial after that Condemnation 2023 On the same charge it was overturned.
“The 35-year sentence reflects the sentence imposed after the first trial in 2023,” said Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy. “This is an appropriate and fair result in light of the seriousness of this crime and the consistent findings of two separate jurors who carefully evaluated the evidence.”

Sofia Negroponte, of Washington, D.C., was one of five abandoned or orphaned Honduran children adopted by John Negroponte and his wife after he was appointed US ambassador to the Central American country in the 1980s, according to the Washington Post.
Former President George W. Bush appointed John Negroponte as the country’s first Director of Intelligence in 2005. He later served as Deputy Secretary of State. He also served as ambassador to Mexico, the Philippines, the United Nations, and Iraq.
