Wärtsilä ensures a five -year energy plant agreement for the Boots Gold Mine

Wärtsilä has held an operation and maintenance agreement of five years (O&M) with Boto, a subsidiary of the Moroccan mining group.

This agreement involves administering a 23MW captive plant in the Boto Gold project located in East Senegal.

The Boto Gold project, located 88 km from Kédougu, near the borders of Mali and Guinea, will work in six Wärtsilä 32 engines of 2.7MW each and four high -speed diesel generators of 1.5MW each.

This installation will provide a reliable power for gold mining activities in a remote location, outside the network, supporting Senegal’s mining and energy sector.

The plant includes a personalized optimization plan with the National Plan of Senegal Sénégal Emerent.

The agreement was recorded in Wärtsilä order intake during the second quarter (Q2) of 2025.

The O&M contract covers the operation and maintenance of the engines, the detection of anomalies with AI and the remote operating support designed to guarantee efficiency, optimized fuel consumption and reduced inactivity time.

In compliance with senegal regulations, mining companies must operate their own energy generation facilities in such areas, which requires reliable energy solutions for industrial growth.

The Director of International Operations of the Managem Group, Driss Mounji, said: “This association is a great step forward for our Operations in Senegal. The personalized approach of Wärtsilä and advanced digital solutions give us confidence to produce gold in a more reliable and efficient way, while establishing the basis for future renewable integration.”

The project also aims to generate employment in the Kédougou region involving local staff.
