GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA– The University of Florida says it is deactivating the College Republicans Campus as a registered student group after being notified that some members engaged in anti-Semitism.
The disruption efforts on the University of Florida campus mark the second time this month that a public university in Florida has taken action against a Republican group accused of engaging in racist or anti-Semitic behavior.
Earlier this month, Florida International University in Miami launched an investigation into a group chat started by an official at the Miami-Dade Republican Party chapter that included violent racial slurs, anti-Semitic comments and misogynistic language. Students and several senior conservative leaders at Florida International University participated in the conversation.
University of Florida officials said over the weekend that the Florida Federation of College Republicans informed them that the union had disbanded its Gainesville campus after some members were found to have “engaged in a pattern of behavior that violates its rules and values, including a recent anti-Semitic gesture.”
When the Florida Federation of College Republicans is ready, the university will help revitalize the campus chapter under new student leadership, UF officials said in a statement.
last fall, The New York Republican State Committee suspended A Young Republican organization after releasing a group chat that included rape jokes and crude comments on gas chambers.
