Lewis Hamilton has provided an update on its Ferrari adjustment progress after joining the team at the beginning of the year.

The seven -time champion joined Maranello’s outfit after a period of 12 years with Mercedes Formula 1 team and a period of 18 years working with Mercedes Power Units. While Hamilton assured Sprint Race’s victory in China, he has not yet been found on the podium for a Grand Prix and has discussed his struggles to adapt to the team and the new power unit.

The Chief of the Ferrari team, Fred Vasseur, previously admitted that both he and Hamilton may have underestimated the difficulties that would come with the change for the British driver. Since then, Hamilton has confirmed that he is not yet 100% of the brakes, but feels that he is progressing.

“I think there are still some improvements to do in terms of how aggressive I can be. The car has been quite agile, so it is not 100% sure to stop when I am attacking in the brakes. In the last race, it was, but in this race I did not feel so much with the configuration we ended up having,” Hamilton explained after Azerbaian Grand Prix.

“It’s a little crazy, because we have been progressing but we haven’t had results, really in the last races. But there is no progress, so I think we can do a good weekend and a good result.”

Hamilton finished the race in the circuit of the city of Baku in eighth position after starting from 12, which was a disappointing ending for what began as a positive weekend for the 40 -year -old.

Both Hamilton and their teammate Charles Leclerc looked strong during the second practice session, overcoming the time sheets with a 1-2 Ferrari, but after an accident for Leclerc in the qualification and an exit of the second quarter for Hamilton, the team went with an eighth and ninth place.

“Yes, it was a disappointing result, as I mentioned yesterday, to feel so optimistic,” he explained Sky Sports F1. “I think through practice after P2, honestly, I felt so good in the car and I think, ultimately, in the wrong direction with the car. But our final rhythm in the race was not on par with the boys in front of us.

“But qualifying clearly is very important if you look where Williams was. They did a great job, congratulations to them. What a surprising result for us to give everything.

“I mean, I’m happy to have advanced since the 12th, but I really couldn’t matter less that position.”
