Spanish Fork, Utah — New DNA testing has conclusively linked the unsolved death of a Utah teenager in 1974 to the notorious serial killer. Ted BundyThe local sheriff’s office said Wednesday.
Laura Ann Amy, 17, disappeared on Halloween night 51 years ago after leaving a party alone to go to a convenience store. About a month later, her body was found on the side of the highway, bound, beaten, and without clothes.
Investigators have long suspected Bundy was responsible — police said he verbally admitted his guilt leading up to Execute him – But the case remained open until they were confirmed. Bundy was one of the country’s most prolific serial killers, with the deaths of at least 30 women and girls in several states linked to him in the 1970s. His murders—which took place in women’s homes, parks, and elsewhere—put the nation on edge. Bundy’s arrest sparked widespread fascination, in part because many considered him charming and handsome.
At the time of Amy’s murder, Bundy was living in Salt Lake City and studying law at the University of Utah.
“Laura Amy is the perfect Utah County daughter. We felt the pain that the family felt when she was taken. We felt the pain that she felt all this time, and we had the desire to provide some type of treatment for you. We can’t really say closure,” Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Reynolds said in a press conference earlier Wednesday.
