Cell phones are not permitted at Augusta National Golf Club.

That’s the site of the historic annual Masters Tournament, and the rule has virtually no exceptions.
That includes a former Masters star.
Mark Calcavecchia was ejected from Augusta on Tuesday for using a cell phone, according to Golfweek.
Calcavechhia’s best finish at a Masters came in 1988, when he was runner-up to Sandy Lyle. He won a major the following year, the Open Championship at Royal Troon.
He played on four Ryder Cup teams for the United States, but even that didn’t earn him the right to use a cell phone on the Augusta grounds.
Why aren’t cell phones allowed in Augusta?
This is not just a rule of the Masters. It’s all the time.

It’s about the atmosphere of a beautiful and exclusive club. Users should not be in the course on their phones, sharing moments viewed through a screen.
Instead, customers (no, they are not called fans here) remain in the scene of what is happening around them.
It’s a refreshing throwback.
There are phone banks on the course in case someone really needs to make a call.
And also: don’t run. That’s another rule of the Masters that you won’t find in other modern golf tournaments. Customers have to walk to reach their destination; At least they won’t be looking at their phone while doing it.
