New Jersey’s governor’s career was shaken on Thursday after the national archives blamed an error of a technician for the launch of the unworthy military records of the New Jersey Congressman Mikie Sherrill.
Sherrill and some Democratic allies are asking for an investigation, saying that liberation was not a mistake, but an extension of President Donald Trump’s effort to arm the federal government against his political opponents.
Responding to a request for routine records, the national archives published the unworthy military records of Sherrill that show that he had an impeccable career in the Navy, including a medal of 1991 for saving the life of a classmate. But the records contained unworthy information, such as Sherrill’s Social Security number.

“Well, it is really scary in these times, of course, having all that private information in the public … but I think what this also shows is that my opponent and the Trump administration will not stop at all. They will completely arm the federal government to achieve what they want,” Sherill said Friday in MSNBC.
When asked if he suspects something “disastrous,” he said, “more than I suspect.”
ABC News has communicated with the White House about Sherrill’s statements that the administration is being attacked.

CBS News, who first reported on the record statement, said he had been investigating whether Sherrill was involved in a scandal in 1994, where more than 130 goalkeeper were involved in a trap scandal.
No document published or obtained by the media has shown that Sherrill was involved in deception, but because he did not inform his classmates, he was not allowed to walk when he graduated.
Sherrill said this was a widely reported incident of 30 years that is not reflected in his military service. His campaign has not provided another documentation on the incident, but other records have shown that his graduation date and the commission date were identical, indicating that the Navy did not have a problem with its graduation.
His Republican opponent, Jack Ciattarelli, said his admission raises concerns.
“Today’s admission by Congresswoman Sherrill in which she was involved and punished for her participation in the greatest scandal of the Code of Honor and Honor in the history of the United States Navy is impressive and deeply disturbing,” said Ciatterelli’s campaign in a statement on Thursday.

“For eight years, Mikie Sherrill has built all her political brand around her time at the Naval Academy and in the Navy, all the time hides her participation in the scandal and her punishment. The people of New Jersey deserve a complete and total transparency,” said the Ciatterelli campaign.
CBS News reported that the application came from the ally of Ciattarelli Nicholas de Gregorio, who was commissioned to do so, the political operation Chris Russell.
Russell, on Thursday, said the apology of the national archives and said that the application error occurred in response to documents not related to the trap scandal.
“Fact: the national archives provided documents in response to a legitimate and perfectly legal foia application. The documents, by the way, that had nothing to do with the cheat scandal,” Russell wrote on X on Thursday.

“The national archives apologized to the applicant and assumed all their responsibility for their mistake. Now … it is time for the representative Sherrill to clean up and authorize the release of all their records.”
The national archives, meanwhile, admitted in a letter, shared by the Sherrill campaign, “they should only have provided information that is liberable to the public under the Foia. Sherrill’s campaign said he is considering legal actions, and that Sherrill’s lawyer has already sent letters to the national archives, the Ciattarelli, Russell and Gregorio campaign.
“We are calling Jack Cattarelli and the Trump administration to immediately distribute the Mikie Sherrill military archives, with protected personal information such as their social security number, and we will explore the appropriate legal actions,” said the spokesman for the campaign Sean Higgins on Thursday in a statement on Thursday.
“To have a guy against whom I am running that will not stop at anything to illegally obtain records, it is beyond the pale,” said Sherrill in an event on Thursday.
The request for records, according to CBS News, was made through a routine and legal procedure and acknowledged that the request would write personal information.
Ciattelli, in a statement on Friday, asked his Sherrill to share more documents of his time at the Naval Academy.
“The real problem in question is exactly why Congresswoman Sherrill had the prohibition of walking in her graduation? “Mikie Sherrill is a patriot and a hero who has served this country, graduated from the Naval Academy, helicopter pilot, Tours of Duty in dangerous places abroad and the Middle East, came home, served as a federal prosecutor, is a supermomo and a large public servant and member of Congress,” Jeffries said. “It is outrageous that Donald Trump and his administration and political tricks connected to them continue to violate the law and be responsible.”
