Police in a city of Massachusetts warns the residents who are attentive after a black bear attacked a goat and tried to enter a chicken coop on Thursday morning.

The bear in question was seen in the Fox Run area in the city of Towsend of Middlesex County, according to the Towsend Police Department.

Police told Boston 25 news that they are not sure whether or not the goat survived the attack of the bear.

Towsend Fire Chief Gary Shepard took a photo of the animal in motion.

The department urged residents to prepare for an increase in bears sightings and to bring bird feeders when the coldest months arrive.

“Residents must be prepared for an increase in bears meetings as the population grows and expands in residential areas,” police said in a statement. “To minimize the meetings, choose fruit daily and do not leave bird feeders from mid -December until the end of February when bears are usually denouncing.”

Police also emphasized: “Never approach a bear. Be sure to keep the distance.”

In August, Towsend Police issued a similar warning after they received multiple reports from a 400 -pound black bear wandering around the Mason and Greenville road area.

The Massachusetts Environmental Police is investigating the sighting of Thursday.
