William Bordsen, 40, was arrested in July on first-degree murder charges, but managed to bond out in just three days.
Police said he beat 65-year-old Robert Murphy to death in his east Charlotte apartment. He claims Murphy was drunk and started the fight. On Friday, prosecutors said that wasn’t true, that toxicology showed Murphy was not drunk and that cellphone video showed Bordsen recorded himself taunting Murphy as he lay dying. For those reasons, Ryan Murphy, his son, said Bordsen should never have been allowed out of jail. Channel 9’s Glenn Counts caught up with him by phone.
“Brutalizing someone, beating him almost to death, not even to death, but almost to death, to the point where he’s making noises on the floor and this guy takes out his phone and takes a video of my dad. It’s the sickest thing I’ve ever heard in my life,” Ryan Murphy said.
Bordsen is being held without bail.
While the family is happy about that, they are still worried that could change in the future.
