Monday afternoon repairs to a water main along Thomasville Road brought Tuesday morning travel to a standstill for those headed downtown.
It also prompted a boil water advisory for residents living along parts of the main road.
Traffic was backed up from South Ride, where a water main valve was being replaced, to Live Oak Plantation Road on the morning of October 14.
That backed up traffic on Thomasville Road and spread to Mahan Drive, causing long commutes.
A city spokesperson said road work is on track to be completed before Tuesday afternoon’s commute.
Residents living along Thomasville Road in the area around Betton Road are also under a boil water notice, according to a text from the city of Tallahassee.
City officials issued a “precautionary boil water notice” to about 200 customers shortly after 11 a.m. on Oct. 14.
According to an email sent to residents of a nearby apartment complex who were without water, a water pipe had broken and was being repaired.
City officials said the repairs were for a “main water valve replacement.” The official said water has also been returned to residents, although the boil water advisory remains.
The city had posted on
The boil water advisory “will remain in effect until the problem is corrected and a bacteriological study demonstrates that the water is safe to drink,” the city’s text says. “When this occurs, you will receive a similar notice informing you that the water is safe to drink.”
Everyone in the area has been advised to boil “all water used for drinking, making ice, preparing food, brushing teeth and washing dishes,” it adds. “Boiling for one minute is sufficient. Alternatively, you can use bottled water.”
As of noon, crews were seen working on a large hole in the road in the southbound lanes near South Ride.
