Two buses collided near a Pentagon bus station, injuring 23 people, including Defense Department employees.
Arlington, Virginia– Two buses collided head-on near a Pentagon bus station on Friday, injuring 23 people, including Ministry of Defense Staff.
The Omni Ride and Fairfax Connector shuttle buses collided with each other shortly before 7:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Pentagon’s force protection agency. Emergency personnel transported 18 of the injured to local hospitals for further medical evaluation. Five were treated at the scene.
Ten of the 23 infected passengers are from the Ministry of Defense.
The metro access road was closed pending an investigation into the accident.
The accident led to mass transportation operations being changed for several hours. Camera footage from the scene showed the two buses colliding.
The Arlington Fire Department confirmed the incident occurred and responded, but referred questions to the Pentagon Forces Protection Agency, the federal law enforcement agency in the Pentagon.
It was not clear what caused the accident.
