san francisco — A gas explosion sparked a major fire in a San Francisco Bay Area neighborhood on Thursday, damaging several homes and sending thick smoke into the air.
Local media said there were possible injuries as a result of the Hayward explosion.
A spokesman for Pacific Gas & The power company said a construction crew damaged an underground gas line at about 7:35 a.m. The company said that the workers were not its employees.
Utility workers isolated the damaged line and shut off gas flow at 9:25 a.m. PG time&H said. The explosion occurred shortly after.
