chicago — A man doused a woman with liquid and set her on fire on a Chicago L train, leaving her in critical condition, authorities said Tuesday.
Police said the attack occurred Monday evening on a Blue Line train. Witnesses told investigators that a 26-year-old woman and a man believed to be in his 40s began arguing, and the man then doused her with liquid and set her on fire.
When the train stopped at Clark and Lake station, the man fled and the woman stumbled and fell to the ground, police said. She was taken to hospital. The police did not reveal her name.
Police said no arrests had been made in the case as of Tuesday morning. Hospital officials did not immediately respond to a request for an update on the woman’s condition.
