Dartmouth, Massachusetts – DARTMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — A plane crashed on a Massachusetts highway early Monday, sending a plume of smoke into the air and forcing the main highway to close, Massachusetts State Police said in a statement.
It is not clear whether there were any injuries in the accident that occurred in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. In videos taken by people driving by, smoke can be seen billowing over Interstate 195 from scattered and burning debris.
State police said the plane may have been trying to land at New Bedford Regional Airport, though officials said it did not appear the pilot provided the airport with a flight plan or passenger details.
Officials stopped traffic in both directions on the highway near the scene of the accident, according to the state Department of Transportation.
