With two November qualifiers still to play, England knew going into Tuesday’s game against Latvia that they could qualify for the World Cup much sooner than expected with a win.

Arsenal trio Myles Lewis-Skelly, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka formed the starting line-up, with Eberechi Eze starting the match on the bench.

Fresh off his goal and Man of the Match award against Wales last week, Saka provided an assist in the first half with an element of fortune. The ball bounced effectively off Saka and into Harry Kane, who confidently took the opportunity.

Eze came on in the second half, when England was already leading 4-0, and scored an impressive goal to make it five. Picking up the ball on the left side of the penalty area, Arsenal’s summer signing ran onto the pitch before firing into the far corner.

The three points were never really in doubt but Lewis-Skelly will be pleased that the defense kept another clean sheet with him playing 90 minutes in the back four.

Rice and Saka came out on the hour mark, with the result effectively already closed at that point.

Seven points clear of second-placed Albania with just two games remaining, England can now afford to lose their final qualifying match in November and still finish in first place. The team can now begin to turn its attention to next summer’s World Cup.
