Asia is prepared to head the additions of global polyethylene terephthalaate (PET) for 2030, mainly due to its growing PET demand of several segments of final use applications, such as packaging, fabrics and textile industries. In addition, the region benefits from the favorable availability of raw materials and low labor costs, which makes it profitable for mass pet production.
Asia is expected to add a PET production capacity of 6.40 million tons per year (MTPA) for 2025 to 2030 of three planned projects and three announced. China, Brunei, India and Vietnam are the only countries that represent capacity additions in the region. China is about to lead, with a capacity of 2.90MTPA of three next projects by 2030.
However, the addition of greater capacity in the region of a project announced in Brunei is expected, namely, the Brunei hengyi pulau muara industries kiss polymethylene terephthalate of terephthalate. The Middle East and the former Soviet Union (FSU) are the other key regions that are expected to add a capacity of 1.44MTPA and 1.04MTPA, respectively, by 2030. The additions of capacity in the Middle East are of four planned projects, two in Saudi and Turkey Arabia. The FSU is also expected, on the other hand, to witness a capacity addition of 0.74MTPA and 0.30MTPA in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, respectively.
