Barcelona are getting closer to landing one of the most promising midfielders in their youth academy, with 16-year-old Hugo Garcés about to renew his commitment to the club.

According to SPORT, talks between both parties are progressing smoothly and confidence is growing that an agreement will soon be closed.

Garcés has been part of the Barcelona youth team since the summer of 2021, when he arrived from Zaragoza to join Juvenil A.

Since then, his development has followed a constant upward curve, earning him recognition as one of the most outstanding midfield profiles at La Masia.

Compared to Gavi

In his early years at the club, Garcés was often compared to Thiago Alcántara due to his technical quality, close control and ability to dictate play in tight spaces.

However, as his game has evolved, his style has taken on a more dynamic tone. Today, his profile is considered closer to that of Gavi, especially in terms of intensity, physical bravery and willingness to attack the area.

Right-footed and of similar height to the Barcelona midfielder, Garcés combines creativity with aggressiveness.

As of today, Barcelona really wants Garcés to sign his first professional contract as soon as possible.

Having turned 16 last month, he is now legally eligible to do so, and the club views it as a priority.

Everyone is aligned

Internally there is total alignment between Barça and the player. Garcés is completely committed to the club, where he has grown as a footballer and as a person.

Although the path from midfield to the first team is very competitive, those who closely follow its evolution highlight one trait above all: confidence.

Garcés plays with personality, faith and a winning mentality, qualities that often separate good youth players from those capable of taking the final step.

The negotiations are not yet formally closed, but only minor details remain. If all goes to plan, Barcelona will soon have another key academy talent linked as part of their long-term sporting vision.
