FC Barcelona said goodbye to promising teenager Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernández during the January transfer market.

The 18 year old The Masia The graduate, who had made his first-team breakthrough earlier this season under Hansi Flick, signed for French champions PSG in the winter.

Dro’s contract had a termination clause of 6 million euros, and he decided to take advantage of it to leave, although in the end PSG ended up paying Barça around 8.5 million euros – thanks to the good relationship between both clubs.

Barcelona taking measures

As things have turned out, Barcelona intend to avoid a repeat of the ‘Dro case’ in the future, RAC1 reports.

To this end, the La Liga champions are already taking measures to ensure that this scenario is not repeated.

As part of its strategy, Barça has temporarily stopped the renewals of young talents from the quarry while it seeks to increase the amounts of the termination clause inserted in its agreements.

From now on, any player who makes his debut with the Juvenil A (U19) will have a termination clause of 6 million euros in his contract.

Meanwhile, in the debut of the subsidiary, Barça Atletic, the amount of the termination clause will increase to 10 million euros.

And, in the event that a youth player makes his debut with the Barcelona first team, his termination clause will be set at 100 million euros.

If these measures had been taken earlier, Dro’s clause would have been €100 million and not €6 million, which would have dissuaded PSG from making an offer for him in January.

Before Dro, Barça also lost Marc Guiu to Chelsea in similar circumstances. As such, they wish to rectify it and are already taking steps to ensure it is not repeated in the future.
