Uli Hoeneß, a member of Bayern Munich’s supervisory board, heard all the criticism his club received over the summer for not spending a lot of money on blockbuster moves or for not filling out the squad to give coach Vincent Kompany a deep bench.
Instead, the Bavarians kept it simple, making shrewd acquisitions, sales and loans, without overloading the roster with too many players.

In short, what Bayern Munich did has worked perfectly.
“We were ridiculed because the team was too small. We deliberately kept the team small and did not bring in the many expensive players that the media mainly demanded. Otherwise, neither Lennart Karl nor any young player would be in the first team. Our coach was willing (to integrate the young players), although he was sad because some transfers did not work out, but he did not complain. He rolled up his sleeves, and now we see the result,” Hoeneß told MagentaTV (captured by @iMiaSanMia).
It’s hard to argue with Hoeneß. The squad has been easy for Kompany to manage and the chemistry within the group has been incredibly good.
The big test, however, is how far this team can go towards a treble, but so far, so good… right?
