Tony Mottola, who has coaching experience in the NFL with the then-Los Angeles Raiders, was announced as Bonita Springs’ third head football coach in program history on Thursday, March 12.

“This is an incredible opportunity and I am excited to get to work,” Mottola said in a statement. “Florida is one of the best football states in the country. Our goal is to create a tough, physical program that plays fast, competes every Friday night and represents Bonita Springs with pride.”

Mottola has coached professionally, collegiately and at the high school level. His most recent stop was at Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, where he led the program to the Cape and Islands League Championships, along with two Island Cup titles. He had a 17-23 record in his four seasons on the island.

“Coach Mottola brings tremendous experience and a track record of building winning programs,” Bonita Springs principal Jeff Estes said in a statement. “His leadership, energy and passion for youth development make him the right person to lead Bonita Springs soccer.”

Prior to his stop at Martha’s Vineyard, Mottola coached at Saint Joseph Regional High, leading the program to four consecutive New Jersey state championships while coaching former NFL standouts Devin and Jason McCourty.
