The Denver Broncos have added a new running back to their backfield.

The Broncos claimed running back Cody Schrader off waivers from the Houston Texans on Monday, the team announced. Schrader (5-8, 202 pounds) is a second-year player who entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri with the San Francisco 49ers in 2024.

The 26-year-old running back has bounced between the Los Angeles Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars and Texans practice squads this season. Houston waived him just five days after claiming him off waivers from the Jags earlier this month. Schrader has appeared in two regular-season games in his career, rushing once for three yards and recording a six-yard reception with the Rams in 2024.

Denver had room for Schrader on the 53-man roster after safety Brandon Jones was placed on injured reserve. The Broncos now have four running backs on the active roster, as Schrader joins RJ Harvey, Jaleel McLaughlin and Tyler Badie.

Fans in Denver will hope that Schrader’s addition is not an alarming sign for the status of Harvey, who suffered a rib injury against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
