Good start with Ben Johnson
Offensively, the Bears continue to have success on the first drive, something that never happened last season, a big reason to be hopeful this team will be different. Caleb was fantastic in the first quarter. He regressed in the second quarter and was outplayed by Jayden Daniels for most of the second half. The thing about good starts, however, is that if a team struggles mid-game, a good start means victory is still possible. With a bad start, a horrible second quarter means the game is over.
The resilient Caleb Williams
Caleb, in the face of adversity, held his head high and fought. There were many penalties that negated the Bears’ opportunities to score and capitalize on the Commanders’ mistakes. However, the Bears didn’t let that stop them from winning this game.
D’André Swift
D’Andre Swift set the tone for this rushing attack and was the MVP of this game. He seemed to have had little to no success this season to date, but last night he had his best game as a Bear. He put this team on his back. He had a 55-yard receiving touchdown, bringing this game closer late, and led the Bears down the field on the final drive with 35 rushing yards. Swift had 108 rushing yards and 67 receiving yards that day.
Force turnovers
The defense continues to force turnovers and give the Bears offense opportunities to win the football game. Jaquan Brisker had a big interception and there was a forced fumble early in the game. The final fumble was a complete fluke, but the Bears defense struggled all game against one of the best offenses in the NFL. Jayden Daniels had the refs on his side the entire game, but the Bears defense still hung their heads and kept fighting.
kept fighting
If the Bears had lost this game, there would be plenty of excuses to point out why things didn’t go their way. If this game had gone the other way, the Bears would have had to talk to the league about the poor officiating in this game. The Bears still adapted and overcame adversity in this game.
Results business
What a significant victory for this team. Last season, a loss to the Commanders derailed the rest of the season, leading to nine straight losses. This time, winning this way could lead the Bears to a special season at the start of the Ben Johnson era. This team has a culture now; The Bears have juice. Adversity only makes this team stronger, and that’s not something that could have been said about the Bears in quite some time. Now comes Sunday to a winnable game against the Saints.
