Casemiro’s time at Manchester United has been a rollercoaster.

Original plan to sell.

Despite a very successful first season at United under Erik ten Hag in the 2022/2023 season, there have been numerous occasions where the former Real Madrid player has struggled in the United shirt.

When Ineos first gained minority control of the club, they actually highlighted the Casemiro deal as the type of mistakes the previous regime at Old Trafford was making.

Resurgence

However, the Brazilian has never given up on his United career despite numerous reports that he has been for sale for the right price for years.

Casemiro struggled as a sophomore, but played better last year.

He was originally left out of the team by Ruben Amorim when he joined at the end of 2024, but has since returned to the first eleven and has been first choice alongside Bruno Fernandes this campaign.

His importance was again highlighted when he started at Anfield despite playing twice for Brazil in friendlies in Asia during the international break.

Casemiro can stay

The Brazil international was supposed to leave the club at the end of his contract next summer, but reports suggest this could be premature.

The Athletic reports that “given his return to regular action and his happiness in Manchester, Casemiro is not looking beyond Old Trafford just yet. He still wants to make United a force again.”

It is claimed that United are unlikely to accept an option on their current deal as it would mean they would remain on the same huge wages they currently receive.

However, “negotiating a new agreement is not ruled out.”

Additionally, the club was impressed with the 33-year-old’s reaction to being left out of the team at the start of 2025.

The article states that “Casemiro did not go knocking on Amorim’s door. I spoke to people close to his team and they told me that he was not depressed but motivated to prove the skeptics wrong, that his intention was to show his coach at training camp what he could offer before showing it to the rest when he regained his place on the team.”

The people of the club “notice his mentality and his leadership both off and on the field.”

They tell the story of a “cheerful character” who is always happy to work with young players and act as a mentor.
