Congratulations to Chase Young. The New Orleans Saints defensive end has been recognized as the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for December and January. It is the first time he has received this award since December of his rookie year, back in 2020.

In many ways, Young regained the playmaking ability that put him on the map a long time ago. He finished the year strong with five sacks in five games, along with six tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries (one of which he returned for a touchdown in what was arguably the play of the year for New Orleans). There weren’t many pass rushers playing as well as him down the stretch. That’s one of the main reasons the Saints enter the offseason with so much optimism.

Hopefully Young can keep up the pressure in 2026. He excelled in Brandon Staley’s 3-4 defensive scheme, lining up the frame of outside blockers to use his size and speed to get through them. If we’ve seen the last of Cameron Jordan in New Orleans (and let’s hope we haven’t), Young has done more than enough to be recognized as a worthy successor.
