Championship rivals await Chelsea in the third round of the FA Cup on the second weekend of the new year (weekend of 10 January), when the Blues take on Charlton Athletic in our first match in this year’s edition of football’s oldest knockout competition. The toss was held last night and our good friend Joe Cole helped pick up the ball.
Although the game will be away from home, Charlton, who were promoted from League One last year via the playoffs, are one of the least good teams in the second division, currently sitting in 17th place, having lost four in a row and conceded twelve times in the process. We should be able to rest, rotate and continue moving forward without too many problems (“should”).

It’s been almost 20 years since the Addicks were in the top flight and in fact we haven’t played them since their relegation in 2007.
