“I really like Cooper (McDonald), and he’s done some really interesting (and) positive things. Both in the preseason, I thought he did a really good job, which, again, you can see what we think of that in terms of him being able to make our roster,” Daly said. “He had a really good game on special teams. I don’t want to speak for (assistant head coach and special teams coordinator) Dave Toub and that side of things, but I think he’s done a good job there.”

During his college career, McDonald accumulated 137 combined tackles, eight sacks, seven passes defended and one forced fumble in 48 total games over five seasons.
“He’s been similar to Jeff (Bassa) in a role where he hasn’t been asked to be on the field tremendously defensively, but he’s out there early every day with Jeff.” Daly said “He has different roles than Jeff, but he’s done a really good job in terms of staying mentally up to date on multiple different places he could be. He’s been impressive. I certainly think there’s a bright future for him, both (Cooper McDonald and Jeffrey Bassa) of those guys.”
McDonald will likely continue to see more action during the remaining games of the season outside of his special teams work. The Chiefs coaching staff is considering many possibilities for the future.
