It was a cleansing of frustrations that Gauff would have preferred to keep to herself. However, the world No. 3 believes the Australian Open does not offer enough private areas to do so and wants to see a change.

“Certain moments, the same thing happened to Aryna (Sabalenka) after I played her in the US Open final, I feel like don’t need to be broadcast,” Gauff said during her post-match press conference. “I tried to go somewhere where I thought there wasn’t a camera because I don’t necessarily like breaking rackets.
“I think I broke a racquet (at) the French Open, and I said I would never do it again on the court because I don’t feel like it’s a good representation. So, yeah, maybe some conversations can be had because I feel like in this tournament, the only private place we have is the locker room.”
Racquet noise aside, it was a tough outing for Gauff. They lost in 59 minutes after managing only three clean winners in 15 games. The two-time Grand Slam winner committed 26 unforced errors and committed five double faults in the first set alone.Advertisement
Gauff, 21, will hope to redeem herself at the French Open in May. She is the reigning champion of the tournament after defeating Aryna Sabalenka in 2025.
