College Football Playoff First Round: STAFF PICKS

The College Football Playoff is here and it’s a little different this year after the committee criticized Notre Dame in the last two playoff seeding series, but I already made that post.

As I’ve said before, I’m not doing a silly boycott of the playoffs (or the bowl games). I’m a passionate college football fan and regardless of how we got here, we’re here now and I have some predictions for the first round.

Tulane Green Wave vs. Ole Miss Rebels

If you want to argue that the lack of Lane Kiffin makes this game more interesting, then fine, but you’re wrong. The spurned lover thing goes into effect, and oh yeah… Ole Miss already beat Tulane earlier this year 45-10.

Old Miss 42 -Tulane 13

James Madison Dukes vs. Oregon Ducks

James Madison hasn’t played a top 50 school all year, and they’re entering Autzen Stadium (of course across the country) to take on an Oregon team that’s been ignored for most of the season despite only losing to Indiana. Dante Moore and company are going to divide JMU so much that we may get a vote on the new playoff format before halftime.

Alabama Crimson Tide VS Oklahoma Sooners

We can call this “We’re Only Here Because of Daddy Ball and Our Dad, Greg Sankey Bowl” for obvious reasons. Both teams are horrendous on offense, but Oklahoma has the better defense. I’m not normally inclined to pick a team to beat the same team twice, but…Alabama really has been that bad. It’s a shame this match couldn’t simply end in a draw and expulsion from the playoff.

Oklahoma 13-Alabama 3

Miami Hurricanes VS Texas A&M Aggies

Miami hasn’t even been 1,000 miles away from playing in an atmosphere like the one that awaits them at Kyle Field. In addition to the atmosphere, Mike Elko will have something cooking for Carson Beck, who will have a meltdown on national television.

Texas A&M 27 – Miami 13

As we’ve done all season, Tallysight’s picks are below. Not only are the playoff games on the line, but so are all the bowl games until Christmas.
