Jenner, whose status was described by coach Dean Evason as “not short-term,” will miss his second game of the season when the Blue Jackets (9-7-1) host the New York Rangers (9-7-2) on Nov. 15 at Nationwide Arena. This is the fifth straight season in which Jenner has required a stint on IR, including a four-month recovery last season following shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum.

Columbus Blue Jackets center Boone Jenner (38) grimaces after being shot in the face during the second period of an NHL hockey game against the St. Louis Blues at Nationwide Arena in Columbus on Nov. 1, 2025.

Jenner has also missed long periods over the past five years with a broken jaw and multiple back injuries. In 15 games this season, he played as a left winger on the second and third lines and contributed three goals, seven assists and 10 points plus a rating of -7.
