When the Dallas Cowboys’ Week 18 game against the New York Giants ended, for most of Cowboys Nation, that was the time to give Matt Eberflus his marching orders.

With nothing to suggest Eberflus should return as Dallas’ defensive coordinator, it appears to be the only move the entire football world knows is coming.
So, there’s no point in lengthening it, right? The Cowboys defense was so bad that nothing Eberflus could say would justify his return.
Rip the band-aid off ASAP and start the search for your next defensive coordinator, right?
Well, coach Brian Schottenheimer isn’t rushing into anything.
“No, just follow the process,” Schottenheimer said. “Once you go through the process, you know what you want to do. I don’t think we rush any of these decisions. You have to go through the process and do the work. It’s not easy, it’s tedious. We’ll work just as hard this week and for the next 10 to 12 days to get through all that, so we feel good about everything.

“We’re going to go through the process. We’re going to go through some things. That’s a big part of what we’re going to do over the next 12 days.”

Schottenheimer’s comments are puzzling
Of course, this is coming from someone outside the building, but does it really take 10-12 days to make a decision on Eberflus?
That’s the most important decision Dallas has to make, and after allowing more than 30 points for the ninth time this season to the lowly Giants, there’s no reason a decision on Eberflus should take nearly two weeks, right?
Well, apparently not for the Cowboys. Unless they’re waiting until the playoffs are over, or their next coordinator is on a playoff team.

We know how long it took the front office to move on from Mike McCarthy, and it appears the Cowboys won’t rush into making a decision on Eberflus.
