Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have formally lodged a complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for alleged misconduct during their IPL 2026 clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5.
The complaint highlights multiple concerns, ranging from inappropriate entertainment at the stadium to alleged harassment of CSK fans, adding a new layer of controversy to one of the IPL’s fiercest rivalries.
According to a report by Indian Express that supplies CSK, a song was played during the match that included references like “dosa, idli, sambar, chutney”, which the franchise felt was stereotypical and mocked their Tamil Nadu identity. The incident comes amid an increasingly heated rivalry between the two franchises. RCB have won four consecutive matches against CSK, intensifying tensions between the teams and their fans.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told The Indian Express: “DJs are usually present to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy stadium it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Keeping this in mind, we have written to the BCCI to investigate it.”
The song in question, originally composed by musician Gana Appu, has been associated with CSK-RCB contests and is frequently circulating on social media. The episode dates back to last year, when RCB shared a video of goalkeeper Jitesh Sharma singing “Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney” before a match in Chennai, sparking negative reactions from CSK fans. During the second leg at Chepauk, CSK’s DJ played the same track when Jitesh was dismissed.
After that incident, the CSK management intervened and issued clear instructions to avoid any comments or actions that could affect the rival players or fans. “Since then, nothing has been repeated. The DJ is not supposed to comment on opposing players and we are fortunate to have a fan base that supports us in large numbers,” said CSK general manager Kasi Viswanathan.
However, CSK have once again expressed their concerns, pointing out that similar lines were crossed during the April 5 match in Bengaluru. Apart from the song, they objected to the stadium DJ’s statements after the dismissal of the CSK players. The team management also expressed concern over the conduct of the stadium DJ, alleging that comments made after the dismissal of the CSK players went too far. CSK argued that the role of the DJ should be to improve the atmosphere of the match, not attack or ridicule the opponent.
