The first and most notable hater was Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua, who X-posted “Sam Darnold” with a laughing/crying emoji amid the Seahawks’ blowout of the Patriots in Super Bowl 60.

The Rams are NFC West division rivals of the Seahawks. Nacua is one of the most outspoken players in the league.

The post caught the attention of Jones, who responded on X: “Aren’t you home? Dumb.”

Jones won’t let anyone disrespect his quarterback. Darnold didn’t have a perfect game but he didn’t turn the ball over either. Jones, the defense’s signal-caller, had a team-high 11 tackles on Sunday.

In Nacua’s defense, he posted in support of his former teammate Cooper Kupp for winning his second ring. The star receiver is coming off a career year: a league-high 129 receptions for 1,715 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.

And Darnold will likely face some skeptics throughout his career because of how terrible his time with the New York Jets was during his first few years in the league. A victory like Sunday’s helps calm some of the criticism, despite a mundane performance. Darnold was 19 of 38 for 202 yards and had a touchdown.

“Offensively, I feel like we didn’t play as well as we could have,” Darnold told reporters after the game, according to Yahoo. “I certainly didn’t play as well as I could have.

“I didn’t have my best stuff, but our team supported me.”

“Give him some respect! He’s the best!” Seahawks receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba said, interrupting an interview with Darnold after the game. “We’re not here without that guy.”
