Injuries during spring practices have presented an opportunity for Maycock to get a head start on learning what defensive coordinator Tony White wants in his 3-3-5 scheme. According to Zach Blostein of Noles247, it shines daily.
With veteran linebacker Mikai Gbayor currently sidelined with an injury, true freshman Karon Maycock has drawn attention as he has been given more reps. A source said they feel he could make the linebacker rotation this season for the ‘Noles.
Maycock learning things so quickly is good for several reasons. He shows that he can translate his game from the high school level to the college level without having a huge learning curve. Plus, it speaks well of how new linebackers coach Ernie Sims is conveying his philosophy.

FSU has veterans like Omar Graham Jr., Chris Jones and Blake Nichelson at linebacker with whom it will compete for playing time. However, Maycock, along with Williams, will need to adapt quickly as they will also be counted on.
