FOREST COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – Early Tuesday morning, as authorities pursued a driver going over 110 mph without lights in Forest County, a deputy crashed into a deer, totaling his patrol car.
On October 14, around 6:35 a.m., the Forest County Sheriff’s Office stated that an off-duty deputy contacted them about an Audi speeding on Highway 55 northbound. The Audi was observed to be overtaking in a no-passing zone and had a “very loud” exhaust.
Shortly after, an on-duty officer spotted the vehicle near County Highway S, and as the officer turned around, the vehicle reportedly increased its speed.

A second officer who passed the Audi noticed its headlights were off and attempted to make a traffic stop. However, that officer hit a deer during the chase, disabling his patrol car.
The chase continued at speeds of more than 110 mph, while the Audi allegedly continued to pass several vehicles in an “unsafe” manner with its headlights off.
The suspect vehicle eventually stopped on the shoulder of Highway 8 near Tower Road in Crandon before heading back east toward Crandon and stopping in the parking lot of a business.
Officers were able to arrest the driver. They were identified as Mason Daniel Spray of Deerbrook.

Spray was taken to the Forest County Jail on the following charges:

First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety

Possession of tetrahydrocannabinols
