Matt Ryan was the starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons for nearly 15 years, from 2008 to 2021, and although the 40-year-old’s playing days are over, it appears a reunion between Ryan and the Falcons could be on the way.

According to Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, Atlanta has had conversations with Ryan about returning to the franchise to serve in the front office. Ryan’s role in the front office would be important, and the former All-Pro signal caller is seriously considering taking the job.

“Scoopage: The Atlanta Falcons have had talks with their former Pro Bowl quarterback, Matt Ryan, about rejoining the Falcons in a front office role. While the two sides are still discussing, people close to Ryan say he is seriously considering this move and talks are ongoing. It would be for a major front office role,” Glazer said on X.

Ryan is a Falcons legend and clearly has an advanced football brain, having played quarterback at a high level for several years and has become a respected analyst on CBS Sports since retiring in 2024.

Atlanta hasn’t made the playoffs since 2017. Interestingly, Ryan was the quarterback of the last Falcons team to qualify for the postseason.

It’s clear that a change is needed for the Falcons, and while Ryan can no longer play quarterback and lead the franchise to victories, he could serve as a key front office piece that turns the team around.

This offseason, Atlanta will need to evaluate its quarterback space as Michael Penix Jr. is recovering from ACL surgery and Kirk Cousins is no longer a starting-caliber player. There’s no better person to have in the front office with an uncertain quarterback situation than a former MVP like Ryan.
