After initially considering that Casemiro did not fit into the newly implemented system at Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim is preparing for a future with the Brazilian at the heart of his team.

Indeed, the Manchester United boss has indicated to INEOS bosses that he would like to keep Casemiro beyond his current contract, which expires in June 2026.

United have the option to extend his stay until 2027 via a 12-month option, but doing so would mean the veteran would continue to earn wages in the region of £300,000-a-week, hence the need for talks to take place, according to TalkSPORT.

The club is not willing to continue shelling out such a high amount for an elderly player, even if he is one of Amorim’s most reliable lieutenants as things stand; Only five of the 20 goals United have conceded this season have come when Casemiro is on the pitch.

The departures of David de Gea, Raphael Varane and Marcus Rashford in recent years have seen the 33-year-old establish himself as United’s highest-earning player, although Bruno Fernandes’ salary has increased in 2024 to accurately reflect his integral role at Old Trafford.

Casemiro has started nine of the 11 Premier League games played this campaign, missing out entirely against Chelsea due to suspension and being used from the bench in the last 10 minutes of the Manchester derby.

Surprisingly, he has returned three goals and an assist so far, with three contributions in his last three outings.

After overseeing a stellar change during the team’s 2-1 win at Anfield last month, Rio Ferdinand praised Casemiro, saying: “Yesterday he was outstanding in that first half.

“I think his positional sense and his awareness in that midfield area in an important game like that was invaluable.”

During the break, he will likely add to his 80 caps for Brazil, having been called up by Carlo Ancelotti for their friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia.
