Gaylord – Gaylord’s university volleyball training position is open once again.

Lisa Walega had only been the leader of the GHS program since August 1, assuming the position that the previous chief coach Brittany Cornish resigned in the summer. Now, Walega is separating from the program after almost two months in charge.

“I have decided to stop training,” Walega said in a statement to Herald Times on Friday. “I have never had a single complaint of a father or student in my 30 years of education and training. All this season, I have been beaten, ridiculed and intimidated by trying to instill my passion for the game and to develop these young women with leaders both on the court. It is not correct and definitely not what defends. There is nothing more than I can do for this team at this time.”

When he was contacted to comment, the Atlético de Gaylord director, Dale Cowper, said that the district will not comment on personnel problems, but trusts that the volleyball program will be in good hands in the future.

“I have full confidence that when the girls return to the campus next week on Monday, we will have them in a position to pursue their passions and interests on and off the court.”

It is the last chapter of three tumultuous months for the program.

Cornish resigned after recently adding a newborn to his family. Walega, a 30 -year -old teacher and coach in Detroit’s metropolitan area, was originally destined to train the first -year team, was then promoted to the JV chief coach and, once Cornish resigned, he was asked to lead the university team.

GHS is 1-10 in games that are not tournaments in 2025. On Monday, September 29, he receives the interior lakes on Monday, September 29.
