In addition to Morant being sidelined, Grizzlies second-year center Zach Edey has been out with a left ankle injury that will be re-evaluated in six weeks. Edey is dealing with a stress reaction in his ankle that was diagnosed on December 11. Edey hasn’t played since Dec. 7, a win over the Portland Trail Blazers, where he scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Edey has been limited to just 11 games this season and missed 13 games to start the season while recovering from offseason ankle surgery. In his rookie season, Edey appeared in 66 games (55 starts) and was chosen to the NBA All-Rookie team.

Along with Edey’s injury, the Grizzlies also released updates on power forward Brandon Clarke and guard Scotty Pippen Jr., who are also out due to injury. Clarke has been out with a Grade 2 calf strain he suffered on December 20 and is expected to return to the court in 4-6 weeks. Pippen is recovering from a sesamoidectomy procedure he underwent to relieve discomfort in his left big toe on October 21. He is expected to make his season debut in 4-6 weeks.
The Grizzlies are 17-22 in 39 games and currently sit in 10th place in a stacked Western Conference. If the playoffs started today, Memphis would barely edge out the LA Clippers by one game for the final tournament spot.
