Tonight was a lot of fun for Guardians fans with a big warning involving Tanner Bibee. But Cleveland beat Seattle 6-4, and that’s how it happened.
The game began with a very exciting event: a home run by Chase DeLauter in his first official at-bat in the Major Leagues:
There’s a reason we’ve been clamoring for him to play for Cleveland since last May, folks. Please, please, stay healthy.

DeLauter debuted a new home run celebration for the team:
Apparently inspired by a team trip to medieval times:
Unfortunately, Brendan Donovan followed with a home run off Tanner Bibee to tie the game as the Mariners’ leadoff hitter. Bibee allowed three solo home runs, one on a fastball, one on a sinker (to Dominic Canzone) and one on a cutter (to Luke Raley). So, that’s not helpful. He only allowed 4 hits and 2 walks and struck out 7… but left in the sixth with what was later reported as right shoulder inflammation. So… that’s bad. Hopefully it will be a short stint on IL.
Back to more positive news: After a single by Rhys Hoskins and a double by Daniel Schneemann, Brayan Rocchio put the Guardians up 3-2 with a double:
After Bibee gave up the game-tying home run, José doubled to score Rocchio and DeLauter, who had reached with singles in the top of the seventh.
Shawn Armstrong gave up another home run to Canzone in the bottom of the frame, but Canzone got a well-placed cutter in the bottom of the zone. The bullpen was impeccable outside of that with a scoreless inning by Connor Brogdon in the sixth, and a DOMINANT inning and third by Erik Sabrowski, who struck out four and cut through the heart of the Mariners order like a knife through butter. Cade Smith had a perfect ninth to save, striking out one.

Oh, did I forget to mention that DeLauter hit ANOTHER HOMER??!!:
The Guardians have their first victory and I can’t wait for the sequel tomorrow night!
