A Redditor returned from vacation to discover that his upstairs neighbor had spilled gasoline on his plants.
Most people have had their fair share of nightmare neighbors, but this was a crime. The person sought advice from the appropriately named ar/neighborsfromhell on how to report this serious flammability offense.
The poster, who lives on the first floor of an apartment building, said the plants and root remains of a bush that had been removed at the neighbor’s request had been sprayed.
Not only were the floors soaked in gas, but also the side of the building. The user confronted the neighbor in vain, since the inhabitant of the apartment who poured gas “admits not having committed any crime and believes they did me a favor.”
Commenters said they should definitely involve the owner and probably the police. Depending on the amount of gas spilled, the Environmental Protection Agency could even be called.
Unfortunately, nightmare neighbors often work against green changes such as gardens, native lawns, and electric vehicle chargers. Although they are a pain to deal with, don’t let the neighbors stop you from making planet-friendly and money-saving home improvements.
Whether you’re planting wildflowers, growing native grasses, or installing solar panels, there are often state regulations to prevent neighbors, homeowners, and homeowners associations from interfering.
If you rent, you can still make upgrades, including switching to LED or purchasing a portable induction cooktop.
Commenters urged the Redditor to escalate this dispute beyond the neighbors: it was a crime.
“Gasoline simply sterilized the soil. Nothing will grow there for years to come. The owner should be informed,” said one user.
Another wrote: “The nuclear option would be to call the EPA. They will come take care of it and bill the neighbor. They have never seen a bill the size of what the EPA will give them.”
“They committed a crime. Call the police,” a third commenter recommended.
