US fast-casual chain Huey Magoo’s has unveiled a new standalone, drive-thru-only prototype aimed at reducing construction expenses and expanding site options for franchise operators.
The basic concept has an interior area of 1,850 ft², with an additional exterior refrigerator.
Configured at 40 feet wide and 50 feet deep, it is designed to comfortably fit into standard half-acre plots.
The layout offers seating for 37 customers inside and 18 more on an outside patio. The design also incorporates a dedicated vehicle lane.
Huey Magoo’s said the model saves more space than its existing freestanding format, which measures 2,600 square feet and seats 42.
The new design is estimated to reduce development costs from scratch by 40%.
The concept was created in-house by architecture and design director Melissa McCammack.
A central order zone forms the focal point of a more open interior volume, with dining areas arranged along the side sections of the building.
This arrangement aims to reduce the total mass of the building and facilitate the concealment of the mechanical systems within the structure.
In the kitchen, the plan adopts a compact configuration that reduces excess space and equipment while seeking to maintain operational effectiveness.
Staff routes are planned to limit unnecessary movements and support performance during busy business periods.
Externally, the building has a sloping roof and a pronounced central façade with large windows that allow natural light to enter the dining room.
The façade combines dark wainscoting, paneling and molding to create a modern farmhouse-style look with a contemporary feel.
The design also incorporates a fully digital menu board system, allowing central control of content and pricing across all sites.
Huey Magoo President and CEO Andy Howard said, “We are excited to introduce an option for current and future franchisees interested in building from the ground up.
“With rising costs in real estate and construction, we have focused on creating a scalable, cost-effective design that makes the development more accessible to franchisees while maintaining the brand’s core experience.”
The initiative builds on the company’s previous efforts to cut development costs.
In 2025, the company launched a 1,500-square-foot inline prototype aimed at reducing equipment spend and helping the brand enter high-traffic retail locations.
Last month, Huey Magoo’s signed a 15-unit development agreement with SMR Capital Group in Texas, US.
