As No. 12 Iowa women’s basketball (10-1, 1-0 Big Ten) prepares to depart Iowa City ahead of its Saturday matchup against No. 1 UConn (10-0) in the Shark Beauty Women’s Champions Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, the Hawkeyes will reportedly be without guard/forward Emely Rodriguez.

While the 6-foot sophomore from the Dominican Republic has been dealing with a back injury lately, On3’s Talia Goodman reported Thursday night that Rodriguez has been suspended indefinitely for violating team rules.

The source Goodman obtained this breaking news did not specify which rule was violated, but stated that Rodriguez has the opportunity to rejoin the team if he recommits to the standards.

In six games played this season, Rodríguez has averaged 7.2 points on 42.5% from the field and 80% from the free throw line, in addition to 2.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.2 blocks per game.

This news is also a rapidly developing story, as it follows head coach Jan Jensen’s cryptic response on Tuesday when asked about Rodriguez’s status with the team.

That matchup between the Hawkeyes and Huskies will begin at 12:30 pm CT and will be broadcast on Fox.
