NEW DELHI: Gujarat Titans will rue a costly mistake in their IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. After amassing a commanding 205/3, GT let the game slip away early when they dropped Virat Kohli for a duck in the first over.
Off Mohammed Siraj, Kohli bowled one that soared towards mid-wicket but Washington Sundar wasted a direct opportunity. That moment was decisive. Kohli made GT pay dearly, racing to a half-century off just 30 balls and eventually hitting 81 off 44 deliveries, combined with eight fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 184.09. He also smashed Jason Holder for consecutive sixes during his blitz.
In the process, Kohli etched his name deeper into IPL history by becoming the first player to hit 800 fours in the tournament.
Dropping to zero while sitting in the limits of 799, he managed to reach the milestone in style by taking Kagiso Rabada to the long fence.
Since his debut in 2008, Kohli has featured in 274 matches for RCB, scoring 8,915 runs at an average of 39.79, including 65 fifty-eight centuries, along with his record 800 fours. He has now taken his tally to 807 fours.
Kohli heads an elite list of boundary-pushers.
Shikhar Dhawan follows with 768 fours and 6,769 runs in 222 matches across multiple franchises. David Warner follows with 663 fours in 184 matches, scoring 6,565 runs at an average of 40.52. Rohit Sharma has 653 fours in 276 matches and 7,183 runs.
Among others, Ajinkya Rahane scored 522 fours in 205 games, while Suresh Raina scored 5,528 runs with 506 fours in the same number of matches.
Gautam Gambhir recorded 492 fours in 154 matches. The list also includes Robin Uthappa (481 fours), KL Rahul (472 fours) and Suryakumar Yadav (471 fours), underlining that the Kohli company remains at the top.
