The Seattle Seahawks have excelled at creating plays through the air this season, and the emergence of Jaxon Smith-Njigba is a big reason why. With the Seahawks just one win away from being crowned champions, JSN led all wide receivers in receptions of 40+ yards heading into their Super Bowl matchup against the New England Patriots.
In 19 starts (including playoffs), Smith-Njigba has totaled eight receptions of 40-plus yards, leading players with the second-most receptions by three.
While seven of JSN’s eight catches of 40-plus yards occurred through Week 12, the talented receiver recorded a 42-yard catch in Seattle’s win over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC title game. Smith-Njigba would explode with 10 catches, 153 receiving yards and a touchdown to help the Seahawks earn a spot in this year’s Super Bowl.Advertisement
According to PFF, Smith-Njigba impressively had the most receiving yards (14.9) among receivers with 135+ targets in 2025. On top of that, JSN set a career-high in average depth of target (aDOT; 11.7) this year, allowing him to show how effective he can be on vertical routes.
Considering JSN’s longest career reception was 46 yards entering the 2025 season, seeing him lead the league in receptions of 40+ yards is quite a feat.
