Coming into the 2024 NFL draft, all the hype was surrounding USC QB Caleb Williams. As is the case with the most highly touted prospects, the team that gets them loves them and the rest can’t stand them.

Caleb Williams has been crying during his second season with Chicago, and in recent weeks in particular, people around the league are starting to take notice.

Among all those who are jumping on the Caleb Williams bandwagon, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was one of them.
When speaking to the media ahead of his team’s Week 17 matchup against the Chicago Bears, Shanahan had incredible praise for Williams.
Shanahan says Williams is one of the best QBs he’s ever seen
There are a handful of NFL coaches who are known for understanding the QB position at a higher level. Kyle Shanahan is one of those offensive-minded coaches.

He has consistently brought out the best in his quarterbacks during his tenure in San Francisco, and his latest project has been turning ‘Mr Irrelevant’ Brock Purdy into a legitimate starting-caliber quarterback.
When asked about Caleb Williams before facing him on Sunday, Shanahan had nothing but the highest praise.
Shanahan said, “Caleb is one of the best throwers and most athletic quarterbacks I’ve ever seen in terms of height, weight and speed. Makes some big throws. Extremely scary on the perimeter. He can hold the ball for a while, not in a bad way, but by creating stuff, which makes coverages have to hold forever.”

He sees greatness in Williams and rightly so, as he has looked fantastic these past few weeks.
When the two teams meet on Sunday, the 49ers will fight for their playoff lives. Unfortunately for San Francisco, I’m not sure Kyle Shanahan’s kind words will be enough to stop Caleb Williams from turning in another incredible performance.
