RB Leipzig issued a statement via social media alongside Magdeburg detailing the incident as follows:

“We were all looking forward to a wonderful night of drinking under the lights, but unfortunately it has been overshadowed by some sad news.
“We regret to inform you that the 1. FC Magdeburg fan who had to be revived before the match died in hospital.
“We would like to express our deepest condolences to his family and friends and wish them strength during this difficult time.
“Out of respect for the family, we will reduce live coverage on our club channels to a minimum. At times like this, football takes a backseat.”
After the match, RB Leipzig coach Ole Werner also reflected on the heartbreaking turn of events and commiserated with the family.

“Of course, when someone is being resuscitated, everything takes a back seat and the support is understandably different.
“Unfortunately, after the game we found out that he couldn’t survive. It’s very, very sad – our deepest condolences to the family,” Werner added.
